The Different Lesson organization works to promote equal opportunities and the general public’s involvement in the national education system by creating connections between Israelis from myriad professions to students in school. Meeting our volunteer professionals introduces the students to role models and exposes them to the many faces of Israeli society. It may also present their first experience with something that interests them opening entirely new horizons.
Different Lesson promotes cooperation between different sectors (business, educational and social), benefiting them all. It creates a feeling of mutual responsibility for the promotion of Israeli society, significantly strengthening the education system. Furthermore, it widens the interweaving channels between industry, academia, the civil service and those who work within it.

Our Vision
Every child has the right to dream, to believe in themselves and to receive inspiration through an enriching and significant encounter with models that they can emulate.
A Different Lesson encourages social involvement and leverages the knowledge, abilities and experiences of employees and organizations for the good of expanding the dreams of the students and influencing the future of Israeli society as a whole.

Our Organizational Goals
To promote, to strengthen and to widen the horizons of students from many different populations, especially those from less fortunate backgrounds, to enrich their learning experience, to develop their critical thinking abilities and to allow them to get to know role models and different professions.
To refresh the education system with new and creative energy, dynamic programming and experiential learning and to promote collegial relationships and cooperation between the organizations and schools that work with us.
To allow for Israelis to work for our educational system, to introduce populations from different backgrounds and to share professional experience and wealths of knowledge and experience through a variety of mixed channels adapted to workplaces, groups and individuals.

Activities and volunteer options
A Different Lesson helps Israeli professionals from different sectors find schools that are appropriate for them, provides training, enrichment programs and hundreds of professional and experiential courses, and pedagogical and logistical assistance at all times.

1. A Different Lesson: Enrichment courses - Volunteering at the workplace (Private, public and academic organizations).
This programs brings together Israelis from the public and private sectors, from different professional backgrounds for a enriching experiential course in schools that serve less fortunate populations. Many of the students have not met lawyers, economists, doctors, engineers, members of the media and other such professions in their day to day life. The students will become familiar with the life of professionals and encounter potential role models. The volunteers will work in groups, organized by work type, to teach a course on professionalism. The course will take place once a week over 12-15 weeks during class hours and accompanied by a teacher. Every volunteer will teach two or more classes in a rotation with their colleagues. The school, its type, the age of the students (from 5th to 12th) grade and the times of the course will be coordinated with the volunteers.
During the 2016 school year, more than 4,500 volunteers from 255 organization taught 435 courses to more than 10,700 students in 210 schools around the entire country. In total more than 60,000 students have benefited from our work.

2. A Lesson Together - Volunteering to promote math and the sciences (with the support of the Trump Foundation)
A combination of quality instruction and encouragement for high school students to choose, to dedicate themselves to and to succeed in the disciplines of math, physics, chemistry. The program is meant for professionals with a relevant background and a love for the subject. They should be able to help improve both the teaching and learning of these professions. Participation requires teaching support for two hours a week and 32 hours of training in a year. In 2016, 350 volunteers helped to teach in 134 schools.

3. A Day of Different Lesson - A workplace volunteer day
A day of volunteering for an organization’s workers or for a division at one school or at a number of schools at once. The day will include an experiential educational program on a pre-ordained topic.

4. A Different Lesson from Parents - Parent volunteers at schools
