Melabev runs five day centers comprised of groups that are based on cognitive level. Each day hundreds of individuals participate in an array of social and therapeutic activities. These activities tap into a person’s interests, often sparking memories, eliciting joy and fostering dignity and feelings of competency and self-worth. The centers also provide much-needed respite and support to families, assisting them in keeping their loved ones at home and out of an institution for as long as possible.
Day Center locations: 3 in Jerusalem (Givat Massua, Pisgat Ze'ev and Talpiot); 1 each in Beit Shemesh and Efrat
Groups are conducted in Hebrew, English and Russian, depending on location.

Melabev specializes in Alzheimer’s and dementia care, and raises public awareness of the needs of older adults and people with dementia. Melabev enables quality of life with dignity and increased self-worth for its participants, while providing respite and support for their loved ones.

Melabev was founded in 1981 by Prof. Arnold Rosin, and Mrs. Leah Abramowitz, MSW, both of Shaarei Zedek Hospital's Geriatric Department. Through their work with geriatric patients, they found that when patients with dementia were being discharged there were virtually no services in the community for this population. So they opened the first day care program in Israel for people with Alzheimer's disease - providing a day of therapeutic activities for the participants and much-needed respite and support for their families.

In Israel, there are approximately 180,000 people with Alzheimer’s disease, and thousands more who have not been diagnosed. Of those with diagnoses, 10% are aged 65 and younger.
