Wikimedia Israel

The activities of Wikimedia Israel focus primarily on developing the initiatives of the Wikimedia Foundation in Israel, both in Hebrew and Arabic, and promoting the growth, development and distribution of open knowledge and access to free educational and cultural content through wiki-based projects (mainly Wikipedia) that engage people across Israeli society as contributors. By training thousands of individuals each year in writing and editing Wikipedia entries in both Hebrew and Arabic, we help participants develop their writing skills, information literacy and research skills and they learn the basics of encyclopedic writing, namely formal writing, using sources, citing, documenting and organizing information. Our activities include, Junior- & High School Students Write Wikipedia, Wikipedia in the Academia, Empowering Senior Citizens to Write Wikipedia, Narrowing the Gender Gap in Hebrew Wikipedia by engaging more women in writing in Wikipedia, Promoting and Securing Access to Knowledge and Cultural Assets by encouraging people from all parts of Israeli society to share knowledge and create free content, and more.
