Amichai Park in Memory of Staff Sergeant Amichai Yisrael Yehoshua Oster, z"l

Amichai Yisrael Yehoshua Oster z"l fell in battle in Gaza on January 1, 2024. He loved his people and his land, and he died defending them both.  We are creating a beautiful spot in Karnei Shomron at the entrance to Nahal Kana, a special corner of Israel that Amichai loved so much, to commemorate this young hero. https://www.jgive.com/new/en/i... Amichai was traveling throughout the United States after serving three years in a combat unit in the Israel Defense Forces when on Simchat Torah, October 7, 2023 he heard about the Hamas massacre and immediately returned home to Israel and joined his reserve unit. In his unit he carried the heavy Mag machine gun, used to provide cover for his fellow soldiers; on the base he raised the spirits of all those around him by pulling out a guitar and playing all of their favorite national and popular songs. Amichai made aliyah from Cleveland, Ohio with his family at the age of 1 and grew up in Karnei Shomron; one of his greatest loves was to hike with family and friends in the beautiful Nahal Kana, located just beneath the hilltop neighborhoods of his hometown. Today, he is buried in the military section of the community’s cemetery, located on the edge of Nahal Kana.  Amichai will long be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and incredible talents. He touched so many people - family, friends, fellow soldiers and travelers. All have gathered together to establish Park Amichai, at the entrance to his beloved Nahal Kana, just below a new residential area where hundreds of families will soon make their homes in Karnei Shomron. https://www.jgive.com/new/en/i... Throughout his all-too-short life, and particularly during the year he spent traveling, Amichai met Jews and non-Jews from all walks of life and enjoyed truly getting to know them and understanding their points of view.  Even people who he crossed paths with briefly felt seen and understood, and remember their encounters with the friendly, curious and happy young man. Park Amichai, a gateway into Nahal Kana, will be a place to relax and picnic, and to also enter the nature reserve for a short hike along the river bed to the Turtle Pool, one of Amichai’s favorite spots. It will also be a place for Amichai's friends and family to gather and remember him, the Iron Swords war and the terrible sacrifices that families like Amichai’s have made.  Whether you knew Amichai or just heard of this brave and talented soldier, you can partner with us in this meaningful project.
