"I've been without heating for two days already. I'm cold and the heater doesn't work. I put on the warmest clothes I can find and I'm just sitting at home with my coat."
Adela, 89, from Hadera, won't be able to heat her home today despite the storm that's about to start outside. She lives alone, her heater broke and she doesn't have money to fix it. Even if it was working, Adela couldn't afford to use it because of the electricity bills she can't pay. (Testimonial of Adela Chokler, Latet aid recipient, to Ynet)
Just like Adela, imagine an elderly, a Holocaust survivor or a family with children who are left without heating and enough food during the cold winter.
According to Latet's Alternative Poverty Report 2019, 97% of the Holocaust survivors and elderly receiving assistance from Latet state that their pension does not enable them or only partially enables them to meet their basic needs with dignity. In addition, about 57.7% of the elderly aid recipients don't have heating at home, and 41% of elderly aid recipients indicate that they don't have enough nutritious meals because of their financial hardship.
Let's come together for 1,600 Holocaust survivors and elderly in need and bring them a winter package containing a food box and winter equipment.
These people have participated in the establishment of the State of Israel, paid taxes and Social Security, but today they have nothing. The only way they can spend the rest of their days with dignity is if we help them. This is our duty.
Let's make a difference in the lives of 1,600 Holocaust survivors and elderly in need in Israel by providing them with a winter package. Let's show them that we care and they aren't alone.
Each package costs NIS 250 ($72) and includes:
A blanket, a heater, and a food box.
