Sde Ilan synagogue accessibility

The synagogue in Moshav Sde Ilan was built about 60 years ago, as an impressive and large building in the center of the then small Moshav. The accessibility of public buildings was not at all known at that time, and the synagogue was built on three floors without an elevator. About 25 years ago, when the need arose in the moshav to make the synagogue accessible for the benefit of the old residents, the members of the moshav faced a big problem, since the costs of accessibility were very high, and the burden of the expense was not possible. Finally, a second-hand elevator was found that was assembled as a patch on the synagogue, and functioned partially throughout the years that have passed since then. In 2022, the elevator was completely disqualified for use. A number of different elevator companies and engineers looked into the issue, and it was found that there is no escape from demolishing the existing shaft, building a new shaft adapted to modern standards, and installing a new elevator. The Lower Galilee Regional Council, the Lower Galilee Religious Council, the Sde Ilan Agricultural Association and the Sde Ilan local committee have invested their utmost efforts to reach a solution as soon as possible, to allow all residents to participate in prayers as usual. The regional council took full responsibility for carrying out the project in an orderly manner, and agreed to transfer an amount of approximately NIS 40,000 from the 2024 budget for the benefit of the project. The religious council helped all along, and will also transfer an amount of approximately NIS 40,000 for the benefit of the project. The member of the moshav volunteered to donate an amount of About an additional 120,000 NIS, which is the anchor for the execution of the project. In order to carry out the project, another NIS 250,000 is required - this is indeed a considerable amount, but it can be raised by the community and with a few other good people and communities around.
