Tal Yakobson, a student of Chinese medicine, contracted cancer at the age of 26 years and died after nine months of struggle. During her illness, Tal and her family frantically searched for one place that can offer supervised treatments combining conventional and complementary medicine, as well as a treatment protocol that addresses her needs and future as a young woman. The lack of treatment protocol adapted to the young adult population as well as a holistic approach to cancer patients, and the absence of professional supervision of complementary treatments for cancer patients, motivated Tal's parents to embark on a large-scale project, which led to the establishment of the first oncology institute that includes alternative treatments complementing conventional treatment. This is a unique, pioneering and innovative model both in Israel and around the world. The first center was established at Sheba Medical Center, which is the largest oncology institute in the Middle East and is a proven success in the field of integrated treatment for cancer patients. The Tal Center was founded in order to promote a significant change in the culture of cancer treatment in Israel.
