What is “Chai Bahem?
We believe that a working person is an inseparable part of the world of Torah.
Serious, meaningful Torah study amongst those who work full time or are full time university students is both crucial for the learners themselves and for the sake of the development of Torah within the real world. Our programs integrate in-depth content with technical skill building, providing the participants with an entry to a world of serious learning within their day-to-day life. Our vision not only enables our students to achieve their own learning goals within the framework of the demands of their daily schedules but also enriches their learning by bringing it into contact with the life-experience of our participants’ professional and personal worlds. The learning is an active experience which bears fruit both in the lives of the learners as well as in the development of the Torah in our modern world.
How did we get started?
Ten years ago we began as a weekly learning program in Gush Etzion (Rosh Tzurim) with 20-30 learners, learning a different subject each year. Five years ago we established the non-profit “Chai Bahem,” which has become a full-fledged independent and government recognized non-profit organization. Over the last five years we have grown from two parallel programs to eleven simultaneous programs with two major tracks in six different locations covering a wide range of topics, and we are well on our way to offering programs country-wide. At the moment there are 250 students enrolled in our full tracks, and another 300 students in our minor tracks.
