Mechinat Ami-chai

Amichai pre-army program ("mechina") of the Israel Zionist Organization is a pre-army preparatory program for 18 year old youths interested in postponing their military service in favor of a year of studies and work. In the mechina they will deepen their Jewish identity, deepen their love of the nation and country, develop leadership skills and Zionist fulfillment ideals, involve in social activity and prepare for a meaningful military service and study and practice attentiveness. We believe that studying and deepening the Zionist, Jewish and social content alongside volunteer work, helping fellow-men and manual labor, expresses the strong desire for taking responsibility resulting in a meaningful army service, active citizenship and social involvement, towards creating a better future in a democratic and Jewish country. The mechina, located in Kibutz Kramim in the Northern Negev, is designated for religious, secular and traditional youths and aims to create a group that will include different components of Israeli society who will serve as a role model for others.
