For the Needy of Jerusalem For nearly 60 years, the "For the Needy of Jerusalem" association has been a steadfast pillar of support and a beacon of hope for thousands of families in Jerusalem and its surrounding areas. Through generous contributions, the organization has provided financial assistance amounting to millions of shekels, profoundly impacting countless lives. The association is dedicated to addressing the critical challenges faced by underprivileged families, focusing on several key areas: Nutritional Security: Ensuring the provision of quality food and dignified holiday meals for families in need. A Warm Home: Supporting the improvement of living conditions and housing for families in distress. Rehabilitation and Employment: Promoting job opportunities through professional training for single mothers and providing academic scholarships for underprivileged youth. Education and Enrichment: Funding unique summer camps for children with disabilities, organizing extracurricular activities, and providing educational supplies. Emergency Medical Care: Offering financial assistance for urgent medical treatments, essential medications, and advanced medical equipment for those unable to afford them. Thanks to generous donations, the association can provide hot meals and warm homes to thousands of children, ensure proper medical care for those in need, and help single mothers bear the burden of household expenses. Since its inception, the organization has operated entirely through volunteer efforts, and due to meticulous financial management, it is recognized for having some of the lowest operational expenses in the country. Today, the association provides ongoing monthly support to approximately 250 families in Jerusalem and its surrounding areas, in addition to assisting around 1,000 more families during the High Holy Days and Passover. The "For the Needy of Jerusalem" association was founded by Professor Yehezkel Kutscher, a renowned linguist and philologist from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Bar-Ilan University. The association began its activities in Jerusalem in the years leading up to 1964 and was officially registered in 1969. The association’s past presidents were retired Justices of the Supreme Court, who generously contributed their stature and efforts to the organization: Professor Menachem Elon, of blessed memory (1993-2011) Dr. Yitzhak Kister, of blessed memory (1969-1993)
