Fair Planet is an Israeli non-profit organization, whose mission is to increase food security and provide new economic opportunities for smallholder farmers in developing countries, through access to high-quality seed varieties and training for improved farming practices. Seeds are the basis for the food supply in the world, and Fair Planet is bridging the gap between the best seeds in the world and the poorest farmers. The tremendous impact of our concept is being demonstrated in Ethiopia, where we identified vegetable varieties that increase farmers’ crop productivity fivefold, while improving their quality and marketability. As of to date, more than 60,000 smallholder farmers in Ethiopia produce more food due to better seeds and improved farming practices and many of the smallholder farmers generated profits, in only one production season, which doubled their annual income. Their families, more than 300,000 people, benefit from sustainable economic growth, improved nutrition security, better education for the kids and better future for the next generations. But this is only the beginning. There are still hundreds of thousands of smallholder farmers who need our help: in Ethiopia, in Tanzania and in other developing countries.
