Lilach was established in 1996. Lilach's mission is to create an infrastructure of support for children at risk in the Tel-Aviv- Jaffa area. Over the years, we have made a difference in the lives of more than 2000 children. We currently operate seven after school centers in low socioeconomic neighborhoods. Each center serves every year 140 children ages 3 to 12. We work closely with the Welfare Services of Tel Aviv Municipality, who refer the children to us. More often than not, these children come from homes with a single parent, a chronically ill parent, or a parent living with substance abuse. They also come from homes where a parent has been incarcerated or where parents are immigrants struggling to adapt to Israeli Society. Each center is managed by a volunteer who is a retired school principal or a teacher. Their professional staff consists of a trained social worker, counselors, a house keeper and an educational assistant. The center is open from 1pm to 6 pm. The children receive two hot meals, assistance with homework, a variety of group activities and outings, and one on one counseling when needed. All in all, we provide them with a homelike atmosphere and offer them a better chance for a productive future. Our income is based mostly on donations and some support from Tel Aviv Municipality. Lilach’s management and administration is based almost solely on volunteers.
