Education and Studies The Telem Center operates 3 high schools for 14-19 year old ultra-Orthodox girls along the at-risk continuum, which provide alternatives for approximately 200 girls annually. The defining characteristics of theses high schools are: individualized programs for each student, small classes to prepare for the matriculation exams, and vocational training in a number of areas. Social Interaction and Empowerment The Telem Center operates youth centers for girls age 12-20 in the center of town and in other neighborhoods for approximately 400 girls annually. These youth centers operate during the evening hours and serve as a warm and welcoming home to the girls. The centers provide: hot meals, one -on-one attention, personal and social empowerment programs, a renewed connection to society and family, as well as educational and employment guidance, therapy and mediation in renewing the family bond. Employment and Vocational Training Volunteer opportunities, professional training, entering adulthood – all of these are significant aspects of building a stable life based on personal responsibility, consistency, giving to others, professionalism, and the ability to cope with challenges. Telem provides solutions for approximately 120 young women annually in this multi-layered and unique program that integrates these values into a year-long chesed program. This program includes housing and professional development accompanied by an all-inclusive supportive framework including one-on-one mentoring and workshops on issues related to employment, building healthy relationships etc. Therapy, Mentoring and Support Services Telem operates a variety of programs and support services for the girls and their parents including: a telephone hotline, one-on-one and family meetings, workshops, prevention programs, alternative programs for vacations and Jewish holidays for the girls, tours, professional development for our educational staff and training programs for struggling parents. Annually, this program assists over 300 girls, 100 members of the educational staff, and approximately 1,200 parents struggling with these issues.
