Imray Binyamin is a 501©3 non- profit organization that was established in 2002 in order to advance equality in education by assisting orphans and children in need. The organization's activities are all based on values of equality and social justice, and all of the organization’s board members are volunteers, operating out of a sense of commitment to the community they live in.
The 'Imray Binyamin' organization is dedicated to advancing equality in education and assisting the students and orphans in need with projects such as 'a tutor for every orphan', 'Schoolbag for every child' and 'summer camp'. Moreover, we operate an 'Orphan's club' where volunteers serve hot meals for orphans, help them with their homework and organize games and fun activities for them.
The 'schoolbag for every student' project:
Every year, in the summer months, students everywhere are getting ready for the new school year. Unfortunately, over 1500 students in Ashkelon, Shderot & Be'er-Sheva can't afford to buy the school supplies necessary for their studies, and they are left helpless. We hope to provide1500 students in need with schoolbags, books and school supplies, thus allowing them to start the school year as equals to their class mates.
As every year we are running the 'Schoolbag to every student' project and distribute school bags and educational equipment in order to assist students in the south of Israel, which are below the poverty line. Students who receive this aid are so grateful to have an equal opportunity to start this studying year properly
The school equipment kit we hope to distribute includes: Quality schoolbag, folders, writing and drawing tools, Books and Notebooks. Each kit costs 67$ thus the total project cost is.
The 'Tutor for Every Orphan' Project:
The project for orphaned students from first to sixth grade, about 30% of them Ethiopians, Some are from single-parent families and most are orphaned by a father or mother.
The main objective of this project is to make a fundamental emotional and physical difference in the lives of the orphans who lost a parent due to car accidents, terror attacks or illness. The ideal outcome would be a positive change in the way the orphan perceives his/herself, and that each child learns to believe in him/herself and develop a sense of responsibility and leadership skills. These tools will enable each of them to begin to deal with the loss of their beloved parents, and overcome difficult situations in the future.
Goals
1. To provide each young orphan with the opportunity to fulfill his or her potential.
2. To assist the students on an academic level, instilling them with values, good citizenship and a desire to contribute to society.
3. To integrate each student in social activities to help them become valuable members of society, such as volunteering in class and in youth clubs.
4. To provide the students with emotional aid and the attention they so desperately need.
5. To pair up each student with a big brother/ big sister to serve as a positive role model.
Students in 11th - 12th grade are recruited in the beginning of every school year and each of them is paired with one of the 126 orphaned students participating in the project. The matching is made by the project coordinator and university students who assist the project.
Tutors and students meet twice a week at the students' house or the organizations' offices. Each meeting includes a portion of academics, using computers and educational software, as well as a social portion, including holiday parties, horse riding trips, movies, bowling, and summer camp activities.
Annual total cost for the 'Tutor for Every Orphan' project $73,000
