Nevet

Nevet is a nonprofit organization dedicated to opening up educational opportunities for children and teenagers from weaker populations by providing them with food security. Nevet was launched as an initiative under the auspices of “Leket Israel” in 2006, and became an independent entity in 2015. The impetus for the initiative was the realization that food insecurity was an acute problem facing school-age children in Israel’s social and geographic periphery. Everyday thousands of children were coming to school hungry and without food, whether as a result of parental neglect and dysfunction, or as a result of their family’s economic distress. Children who lack food security are unable to concentrate in class, often exhibit behavioral problems, and tend to drop out at a higher rate. Today, Nevet, the largest food-security organization in Israel in schools, launched the “Sandwich for Each Child” initiative, which today provides some 13,000 children in 300 schools across the country with a fresh, healthy sandwich each day. The sandwiches are made every morning in each of the schools and distributed directly to the children who need them.
