Telem - Employment for Senior Citizens is an NGO run by volunteers which operates for over 40 years. It’s purpose is to aid senior citizens, 60 years and older, to find a job which suits their skills and suitable for their lifestyle. The NGO has perpetual association with hundreds of employers who recognize and appreciate the qualities of a Senior employee over that of a young one. The activities of the NGO is supported by the social services (senior citizens services), ASL-joined, and other senior services such as: local authority social services and other senior citizen organisations. Their main objectives are:1. Placement centers for employees 2. Employment social clubs 3. Raising the awareness of organisation in regards to the employment needs of senior citizens . Placement Centers for Employees of 60 years of age and older, who have difficulties in finding employment on their own and need assistance and referral in finding a suitable employer, there is no charge for the service. The center operates under the recognition that there is a growing number of retirees who is in need or a want for employment, usually as part timers. They are prevented of it by two main obstacles: on the one hand there is an unfortunate view of seniors as unable and invaluable work force, on the other hand the seniors themselves are unaware of their option to carry on working, on to of the lack of self confidence in their own abilities and value in the ever changing work environment.The guiding principle which guides the placement of the seniors is to enable them to blend in as any employee will do. The employment seekers arrive at the Center after a “getting to know you” chat, they get help with writing their CV as well as the opportunity to participate in workshops and short courses in aim to update their skills to now days invoirement. While the potential employees get their skills upgraded the Center receives job vacancies information which is handled by highly skilled individuals who much the need of the employer to that of the seniors and when a match is made with the consent of the senior his CV is sent to the potential employer. The Center keeps in touch with the new employee to make sure all is satisfactory. The employment social clubs are aimed at finding employment to the seniors who are supported by the social services and are economically disadvantaged and live below the poverty line. The seniors are employed five days a week for four hours a day doing all kinds of jobs for organisations and factories. The seniors are covered by insurance as the law required. The club is runned by administrator who is in direct contact with TELEM head office and all the officials who are part of the operating staff of the local authority. The NGO recognize the vital importance for employment amongst senior citizens and their for working tirelessly in finding suitable working environment, in aim to increase the number of employed senior citizens. Due to its great connections and the years of experience the NGO is encouraging the establishment of new alternative frame of work environment which are suitable for the needs of seniors and aspiring to take part in the making and running of such environments.
