Hillel – Beyond Orthodoxy provides support and resources for young adults making the difficult transition from ultra-Orthodox to secular society.
Yotzim B’sheilah – as they are commonly called – are cast out, lose all support, face social isolation, financial stress, and homelessness; and struggle with debilitating gaps in core education and employment skills.
Hillel provides comprehensive assistance during the initial 3-5 year transition stage, as well as practical tools and individualized guidance towards long-term integration goals. Support includes psychosocial services, housing stability, support for single-parent families, scholarships and scholastic services, career development, and other resources necessary for success.
In 2024 Hillel staff and over 1,600 volunteers will serve 5,000 participants via:
5 Hillel Community Centers Nationwide – Over 800 events annually.
13 Transitional Housing Units nationwide – Providing rent free sahred living with support in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa, Be'er Sheva and at Kibbutz Hatzerim.
2 Ha’Bayit Shel Hillel (Hillel’s Home) Emergency Shelters – Residential shelters that house clients for up to 6 months, providing full intake, counselling, risk-management and referral services.
Comprehensive Psychosocial Services – Over 5,000 hours of support per year.
Academic Support Program - Completing core curriculum, Scholarships, one-on one tutoring and support.
Workforce Integration – Counselling and practical support towards employment and career development.
Single-Parent Program – Comprehensive support via an array of programs and services tailored to meet their specific needs including Housing Subsidies, Respite Retreats, and free Legal Aid.
Services for Yotzim on Active and Reserve IDF Duty - Support in accessing Lone Soldier status and benefits, free shared off- base housing, food vouchers, and other disbursements around holidays.
