Who We AreGilat Israel is an international nonprofit dedicated to supporting Israel’s most vulnerable pediatric patients, children facing long-term, complex, and life-threatening illnesses. Inspired by the memory of Gilat z”l, an extraordinary 11-year-old girl who brought light and joy to those around her even during her own illness, the Foundation provides emotional, psychological, and social support to children who spend months and sometimes years in hospitals. Founded in the Netherlands, our work began long before the war. Following the events of October 7th, our programs expanded to Israel, responding to the urgent needs of hospitalized children affected by illness, displacement, injury, and trauma. What We DoOur flagship initiative brings weekly therapeutic theater experiences directly into hospital walls. Through professional performances filled with music, storytelling, puppetry, humor, and imagination, our therapeutic actors transform hospital wards into spaces of joy and connection. These are not simply performances, they are carefully designed emotional interventions developed alongside pediatric professionals and adapted to each child’s unique needs. For children who are unable to participate in regular activities, our performers bring the magic directly to their bedside. By returning week after week, they become familiar and trusted figures, creating moments of comfort, stability, and emotional healing for children and their families.
