Saving Jerusalem Forest and preventing a transportation catastrophe
By Shomera For A Better Environment
Yes to nature - no to the destructive construction plan
Donors: 367
Although we won the administrative appeal to stop the work, the state of emergency continues and we face two difficult tasks: one is a new urban plan (TABA), to be deposited with the district committee and the other is the municipality's appeal to the Supreme Court. We need your continued help with donations to defeat the interest group in the municipality.
We must stop the destructive construction plan promoted by the Jerusalem Municipality, a monstrous plan of tens of thousands of square meters for education campus, the forest and the ecological corridor will be destroyed and human life will be in real danger due to the traffic chaos that will be created. Only with your help will we stop the municipality that continues the process, without the participation of the residents, with half-truths and without a detailed TABA.

🟢 The area is about 18 dunams, part of the Jerusalem forest with many hundreds of trees, pine, cypress, carob, oak, gum goddess and more.
🟢 Wild animals foxes, porcupines, jackals, mongooses and a variety of winged animals.
🟢 The area is a narrow ecological corridor at a critical point of the REVIDA river urban nature site, managed by KKL.
🟢 The Jerusalem forest has suffered severely in recent years from continuous encroachment and less than a third of its original area remains.
🟢 The damage to the ecological space is severe and destructive, it is the main green lung of Jerusalem.

In addition to the serious damage to the environment and trees, the residents will live in an unbearable nightmare, due to the huge load of hundreds of additional vehicles and institutions on a narrow Dead-end street, the residents are already suffering badly from the 12 existing institutions due to double & triple parking. Therefore, the plan eliminates private street parking outside the complex. At the border of the lot there is an intercity high voltage power line pole that requires the institutions to be tens of meters away. The exit from the lot to Iben Denan street is very dangerous due to the narrow opening, a sharp turn and a very limited line of sight. The result could be catastrophic with serious road accidents. We have proposed alternative solutions: a 200 dunam at PI GLILOT complex and/or dispersing the institutions throughout Jerusalem, but the municipality does not want to listen.
Thousands of opponents of the plan have signed us and many organizations support us: Shomra for a good environment, the lobby for a sustainable Jerusalem, the Society for the Protection of Nature, KKL, Save Jerusalem hills, protect the trees in Jerusalem, Green Trend and more .
