The Central Library for Blind

The Central Library for the Blind and Reading Impaired (NPO 580030799) is a registered non-profit organization active for about 70 years as the largest and the leading organization in Israel in the field of accessible culture and information for this audience. The Library strives to shrink the cultural, social and educational gaps between those with vision impairment and the sighted public, based on the belief that we are all entitled to pursue cultural experiences, to celebrate the ability to choose and to enjoy the wonderful creations available in Israeli and global culture. The Library’s services are offered to 14,500 subscribers, of all religions, nationalities, sectors and socio-economic status. In the reading field, the Library produces books, textbooks, newspapers and magazines using various techniques, such as voice recording and printing in Braille and large print, of tens of thousands of titles in Hebrew, Russian, Arabic and English. In addition, the Library produces audio description, a narration filling in gaps in information for processing sights and visual messages, allowing the blind and visually impaired to enjoy a better quality of experience when consuming movies, TV programs, live plays and various performances.
