7 True Stories, 10 Minutes Each About the Events of 7/10 from Women's POV
Gali, a 15-year-old girl, had been hiding for hours under the bed in the safe room of her grandmother’s house on October 7th. Through the messages that were popping up on the WhatsApp group of Kibbutz Kfar Aza, she is exposed to the horrifying atrocities of Hamas. After hours of hiding, hearing only gunfire and shouting in Arabic, Gali suddenly hears voices in Hebrew. She courageously leaves the safe room and encounters two soldiers from the special commando forces unit in her grandma’s living room. She bravely offered her assistance in mapping out the kibbutz and locating the terrorists and the wounded neighbors based on the information that appeared in the WhatsApp group. Young Gali takes on the role of an operation officer and successfully saves many lives. She reassures the residents of the kibbutz that the IDF is on the way, and at the same time, she keeps the soldiers updated on the locations of the terrorists and the status of the wounded who need immediate help.
Gali is one of many Lionesses who, under the pressure of fear and horror, showed courage, compassion, and bravery managing to save many lives. The series Lioness sheds light on seven exceptional stories of true women that happened in real life and not in an action or a horror movie. These stories reveal the Israeli woman’s courage and determination, showcasing assertiveness and strength with which they can lead an entire world.
The series format commemorates the date of 7/10. 7 short films X 10 min. The series is created by leading film and TV female creators in Israel. Each film will focus on one woman who, following the events of 7/10, had become a Lioness, determined to fight back and save lives. At the end of each episode, we will reveal the name and picture of the woman the story is about and her current situation.
The series is based on in-depth research and collaboration with the real woman whose story is based on. Each episode will embrace a different style and aesthetics based on its creator’s cinematic expression and the nature of the story. Each episode will stand alone as a short film but also be part of a 70-minute film that will be compiled and edited from all 7 stories to be distributed to television broadcasters and film festivals worldwide.
Lioness aims to shed light on the human and liberal side of Israel and Israeli women. Now, more than ever, as the Israeli narrative is misrepresented, staining our pages of history worldwide, we feel a burning need to tell our story and voice the stories of the women who became Lionesses on Oct 7th. This is not a political series, but the values of equality, feminism, compassion, and humanity will emerge from it.
Behind the Scenes
Lioness is a collaboration between The Content House production company and the non-profit organization Big Sister – Women in Film and Television, founded by leading female creators in the Israeli film and television industry. Big Sister was created to support female creators in Israel and decrease the gender gaps in our industry. The series will be produced by prominent female creators working in teams, providing employment opportunities for women in the industry who have also faced many challenges since the beginning of the war.
We are currently in the fundraising and recruitment processes. We have received a grant of 200,000 NIS from the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs and private donations of 50,000 NIS. We have initial interest from the Israeli national broadcaster Channel Kan 11 to come on board. We have approached leading female creators in the Israeli industry, and all have expressed their willingness and passion to participate in this important project, including Sigal Avin (Creator of the series Losing Alice, Apple TV) and Zohar Wagner (Creator of the award-winning docudrama Savoy)
Lioness project is supervised by the management board of Big Sister: Ronit Reichman, Nili Tserruya, Elite Zexer, Nurit Yackobs Ynon, Lisa Shiloach, Dana Stern, Anat Moses, Inbal-Rotem Shagiv, and Dana Blankstein.
