Shalev was a fighter in the Golani Brigade, he was responsible for the communication in the 51st Battalion, during the morning patrol of the IDF along the Gaza border fence, he and his team were the first force against dozens of terrorists who crossed the border, they fought bravely and fiercely defended the surrounding settlements , after several battles, the armoredjeep in which they were traveling to defend Kibbutz Nirim was hit by a RPG and he was killed on the spot.He was very connected to the country, he always said: "I am ready to sacrifice my life for the country, so that you can live a better life, I am not afraid of that", the TIKVA song made him very proud and moved to tears.
