The Yarmukian House
By Ein Dor Museum
Building a home together
Donors: 7
In times of war, when the concept of home has become significant for many communities, evacuated families join local community in reconstructing a Yarmukian Culture house from 8,000 years ago.
The Yarmukian Culture Museum at Sha'ar HaGolan and the Ein Dor Museum have joined forces with the evacuee community in the region and the local community for this shared project. The initiative aims to strengthen the sense of belonging and resilience within the entire community (both locals and evacuees) by learning ancient construction techniques and working together. This collaboration will strengthen the feeling of "home away from home" for the evacuee community.
The Yarmukian House will be built in Sha'ar HaGolan (Jordan Valley) with volunteers and experienced professionals in archaeological conservation. This presents a remarkable opportunity to the public to actively engage in reconstructing the past and establishing an open and sustainable space for educational and community activities. The Yarmukian House will serve as a testament to solidarity during times of war when people were evacuated from their homes and found a new home here.
Your contributions will enable:
- Strengthening community bonds and a sense of solidarity between local residents and evacuees.
- Fostering a sense of personal and community empowerment and resilience.
- Transmitting ancient knowledge and skills to the community.
- Creating an educational, connecting, and sustainable space.
About the Yarmukian Culture Museum at Sha'ar HaGolan:
The museum showcases the findings of the Neolithic village (dating back 8,000 years) from the archaeological site at Sha'ar HaGolan. This represents the period of the dawn of agriculture, pottery, belief, and worship in the Near East. Visitors are presented with a comprehensive picture of the daily life, worship, and art of an agricultural village on the banks of the Yarmuk River. The museum connects visitors to the ancient settlement in the Jordan Valley through archaeological artifacts, guided tours, and experiential activities.
