Clothes of Honour

Establishing a Clothes Fund for Needy Families in Har Nof in Honour of my Grandfather Maurice Shasha z"l
Ends: 09:00
Donors: 69
The legacy my grandfather, Maurice Shasha, left us was one of giving. His acts of giving exceeded the regular boundaries of giving. He not always strived to give in a manner that was honourable for the recipient but even gave in a manner when the recipient didn’t know he was taking from my grandfather.
He hired many people to work for him when he didn’t need a job filled but rather the recipient needed to earn a livelihood, so he created a job, a means by which he could give to them without them feeling the recipients of charity.
I have had the privilege to be very involved for many years in the local community charity, Tomcei Shabbat Har Nof. We help hundreds of needy families on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.
Yearly we have an extremely successful clothes sales where we get clothes at importers cost price and sell them to the families without any margin to ensure they have the necessary clothes without it being a financial burden on them. The problem is even during the year these families need clothes. For a while we have had the dream of giving the families an opportunity to buy all year round certain essential clothes but this hasn’t yet materialised.
After the passing of my grandfather I thought this project would be the perfect way to emulate his ways and do in his honour. The families are paying for clothes, thinking they are giving but in truth with all the effort on our behalf to procure the clothes at cost price really we are giving them. This is how my grandfather taught me how to give, in a honourable manner where the recipient isn't aware of the benevolence of the giver.
I have taken upon myself this project in honour of my grandfather. I will start solely with shirts, for kids, teens and adults, an essential piece of clothing here in the religious community. I can obtain each shirt at 45 shekels and will sell it for 45 shekels. To have a sufficient inventory I need an initial cash injection of £18,000, 90,000 shekels. After this initial cash injection this initiative will be self-sufficient and just need my time input. The average shirt costs 90 shekels in the shops, this will save families a huge expense and will be a way we can emulate my grandfather by giving in a way the recipient isn’t aware he is taking.
It will be a tremendous merit for my grandfather if this project is completed by the sholoshim, 15th of October and I tremendously appreciated your partnership in this project. May it bring great merit to my grandfather and to all the participants before Yom Kippur.
With heartfelt appreciation, Joe Douer.
