Fortify Israel

Founded in the aftermath of October 7th, Fortify Israel exists to restore mental health and build resilience in the next generation of Israelis affected by war. While many organizations are addressing mental health needs and expanding therapeutic services, Fortify Israel fills a critical gap: embedding trauma-informed resilience education directly into underserved communities' schools. We train classroom educators—those with the most trust, access, and impact in children’s lives—to normalize conversations around mental health, identify red flags, and facilitate resilience-building groups—’kevutzot koach’—in schools. With local staff, grassroots partnerships with schools, and sensitivity to community norms, we’ve succeeded in bringing trauma care to spaces where few, if any, others operate. The model’s strength lies in its accessibility: schools integrate groups without disrupting core instruction, students participate without stigma, and communities benefit from an increase in trauma-literate educators. In the 2023-24 and 2024–25 school years, we trained 77 teachers who led 121 groups, reaching 1,341 students across 36 schools.
