Israel is among the world leaders in fertility and birth rates. Every year, approximately 180,000 babies are born in our country. Pregnancy and childbirth are monumental challenges that can serve as a source of strength, connection, personal growth, a sense of control, certainty, closeness, and love. Yet, they can also bring pain, loneliness, anger, disappointment, frustration, and a sense of detachment from oneself. We see childbirth as a significant gateway—not only for the birthing women but also for the newborn babies. This gateway encompasses a profound process that impacts us all, which is why birth is often referred to as a "formative life experience". Every birthing woman has numerous options before her. However, most women are not fully aware of or engaged in the countless decisions and choices made along the way, despite their profound impact on the experience. The Birth Freedom Israel Movement The "Birth Freedom Israel Movement" (registered nonprofit) was founded on the deep belief in every woman's natural right to a respectful, safe birth that aligns with her perspective and choices—while safeguarding her sovereignty over her own body. We are committed to the values of responsibility, kindness, compassion, respect, equality, autonomy, and informed free choice. We understand that every woman’s right to make decisions about her birth encompasses all these values. The change we aim to create and promote starts with the recognition that medical care and socio-cultural attitudes toward childbirth must acknowledge the interconnectedness of body and mind. Health is not just physical but also emotional and mental. Over the years, we have impacted the lives of thousands of women and families, led legislative and legal reforms, and introduced programs that promote a respectful and supportive birth experience. The Iron Swords War, which continues to affect us all, has highlighted the urgent need to support women during pregnancy and childbirth. This is our most sensitive, yet also most powerful, place as a society. It demands resilience that radiates outward to everything around it. Your support will enable us to continue: • Advocating for Policy and Legislative Changes: Ensuring basic human rights for birthing women, including preventing harm and providing equivalent subsidies for all types of births • Education and Training: Raising awareness about birth rights for women in Israel and training medical teams on the importance of respectful and equitable birth experiences. • Improving Infrastructure and Partnerships: Promoting the establishment of independent birth centers, improving midwifery standards, and fostering systemic collaborations. • Leading Social Change and Research: Transforming cultural perceptions of pregnancy and childbirth, and collecting data to continually improve the field of childbirth.
