Captain Amit Levy z”l was a commander in Unit 6551 of the 551st Brigade who tragically fell in Gaza on the first day of Hanukkah while on a mission searching for the hostages.
He leaves behind his wife Chen and their four young children, who are 9, 7, 5, and 2 years old.
He was killed in action by an enemy bullet shot in close range while leading a dangerous raid into a residential house. As the commander, he insisted on "leading from the front." On this mission he was the first one who entered the room. For that reason, he was the one who took the bullet.
Amit was a Modern Orthodox Jew who embodied everything good about Zionism, service to others, and Ahavat Yisrael. Amit was the “Shamash” (helper candle) who lit up the lives of his family and everyone fortunate enough to know him. He was a dedicated father, a dedicated husband, and a talented mechanical engineer. In his professional life he worked on aerial drones, robotics, and other advanced defense technologies.
Amit was a natural leader, and he served with profound dedication and endless love for the Jewish people, G-d's Torah and the Land of Israel. As a young man, he graduated from Nativ Meir Yeshiva High School, and studied for three years at the Hebron Yeshiva (a Yeshiva combining Torah study with military service) before joining the IDF as a paratrooper (Tsanchanim). He chose to prolong his military service beyond the amount of time required, in order to serve the State of Israel as an officer.
After the army, Amit studied mechanical engineering at Ben Gurion University and went on to serve his country working as a mechanical engineer on homeland defense projects. He was most recently working on a system that intercepts enemy drones using a laser.
After October 7, with a wife and four young children, he uncomplainingly went back into active military duty as a reservist, leading his unit on multiple extended deployments into Gaza and Lebanon.
He was motivated by service and selflessness, and on the first night of Hannukah, he paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Amit left a lasting light in our lives, but sadly, he is no longer here to continue spreading light or to secure the future for his widow, Chen, or their four young children. Your donation will give Amit's widow and four children financial stability.
We hope that by giving in Amit's memory, Amit’s light will continue to shine through all of us. Thank you for your support.
This campaign has been organized by Amit's siblings, and all donations will go directly to Amit's wife, Chen. All donations are tax deductible in the US and/or Israel.
