The third age often brings loss—of loved ones, health, and independence. For Holocaust survivors, old traumas resurface. The war has made things worse, with anxiety and instability affecting thousands of elderly people. The Israeli government recorded a 300% rise in requests for mental health support from the elderly.
For the past three years, over 2,000 seniors received therapy from Elah, funded by the Ministry of Social Equality. But the budget is gone. Seniors in need can no longer get therapy, despite its proven effectiveness in reducing anxiety and improving resilience.
We Can Still Help—With Your Support
Elah has the infrastructure, expertise, and professional network to provide therapy immediately, nationwide. With donor support, we can offer these services for free to those who need them most.
For seniors with cognitive decline, our trained therapists use art, music, movement, gardening, and animal-assisted therapy—proven methods that awaken memories, restore dignity, and bring joy.
The Impact Is Clear
A government study confirmed that even short-term therapy significantly improves psychological resilience in elderly people, especially those suffering from anxiety, loneliness, and grief. During the war, we provided therapy to over 1,000 seniors, but without funding, we cannot continue.
Holocaust survivors receive state-funded therapy, but “ordinary” elderly people do not—despite the urgent need. They too deserve support, especially in times of war and crisis.
