As Maimonides ruled, redeeming captives takes precedence over supporting the poor, and there is no greater or more significant mitzvah than redeeming captives...” “And particularly in marrying off daughters, it is akin to redeeming captives, for the distress and great suffering they endure bring them to shame, and parents’ eyes are filled with bitter tears. May the Merciful One have mercy on them from Heaven.” And further: “The highest form of charity is giving anonymously, where the giver does not know to whom they are giving, and the recipient does not know from whom they are receiving.” "Chatanim U'Kallot" Gmach – Helping Young Couples Start Their Journey with Dignity Hello, My name is Eitan Kohanim, and I run the "Chatanim U'Kallot" Gmach, which was founded about 10 years ago by my parents. What began as a small donation of a set of dishes for each bride who got married, has grown into a large gmach that assists hundreds of brides each year. Over the years, the gmach has expanded, and we have already helped over 6,000 brides, providing them with a dowry that includes essential items such as a set of dishes, a set of cutlery, cups, a Shabbat tablecloth, towels, a frying pan, an electric kettle, and a set of bed linens. What Makes Our Gmach Special? • Everything is Free: The gmach does not charge any fee, each dowry is provided completely free of charge, without any discrimination between different sectors. • Wide Distribution: Dowries are distributed to everyone from Kiryat Shmona to Eilat—without requiring proof of financial need. • Full Transparency: Every donation goes 100% directly to the brides and grooms, with no overhead expenses (lawyers, accountants, and volunteers do everything voluntarily). Our Achievements So Far: • 2022: 716 brides • 2023: 837 brides • 2024: 845 brides • 2025: 955 brides As you can see, the activity has grown year by year, with new items added to each dowry.
