There are but few moments in life when we stand before choices that possess the power to transform lives and forge a new reality. Such an opportunity lies before us now, with the establishment of Nir Ba'Arava – in the light of Nir, a pre-military program for juveniles at high risk - offering them the chance to rewrite the narrative of their lives and to choose a different future, along an untraveled path. At the Ruach Arava ("Arava's sprirt") Association, we have amassed extensive educational experience, enabling us to guide these young men of complex backgrounds through a profound educational and social journey - paving the way for their renewed purpose. For them, we are establishing Nir Ba'Arava – in the light of Nir Abohazira, who born and raised of Moshav Hazeva, and killed in 2024. Nir was a child of the desert—an embodiment of open spaces, family, friends, and an inexhaustible energy. Her zest for life was boundless, each time choosing to face challenges resolutely, much like the desert bloom that insists on flourishing against all odds. Throughout her life, Nir’s actions flowed naturally and intuitively from a deep understanding that immense possibilities lie within the creative power of the human spirit. In every stage and in the face of every challenge, she chose action, sought the good, and offered an authentic, equal opportunity to each person she encountered. In her brief yet full life, Nir chose to live by the value of giving: she served as a youth movement guide, joined a pre-military program, served as a combat soldier and commander, and upon her discharge, dedicated herself to guiding children at the "Nardim" children’s village. She lived with a steadfast belief that every individual deserves an equal and genuine chance to face life’s challenges and to grow. This enduring spirit—the light she radiated—remains a living testament, pulsing in the desert. Her parents, Dalit and Rami, have chosen to honor her memory and her radiance by giving to youth, so that they might find a place in this world. We draw inspiration from Nir’s life choices and her profound connection to the Arava. Our experience has taught us that the Arava is a realm that nurtures deep processes, driven by the conviction that challenges are a source of motivation for purposeful action. The pioneering spirit of settlement and agriculture in the Arava bears witness to this truth. Determination, faith, and the labors of individuals—these have built communities, made the desert bloom, and forged a strong, ever-evolving society. This is the Arava: a land of doers, undaunted by hardship. Nir Ba'Arava – in the light of Nir shall weave together communal living, study, emotional development, daily agricultural labor, a bond with the Arava community, and preparation for meaningful military service. It shall serve as an opportunity to an independent, responsible life and genuine integration into Israeli society. Every child needs but one adult to believe in him. The founding of Nir Ba'Arava – in the light of Nir is an opportunity for an entire community to stand in unwavering belief. In September 2025, the inaugural class of the program shall commence - and we call upon your assistance to establish the rooms, classrooms, therapeutic spaces, and shared community areas. Together with you, we shall create a new and hopeful reality for these young men and women seeking opportunity, belonging, support, and hope. Help us light their way, that they may discover their own inner strength and radianc
