PET C.T
The PET-CT is used to perform integrated imaging testing that enables both structural imaging (CT) and functional imaging (PET) in a single scan:
This is an X-ray based imaging test. The CT creates a detailed 3D image of the organs in the body.
PET-CT is based on the radiation that is emitted from radioactive materials. In the test, a small amount of radioactive material is injected into the body, and it binds to the various tissues according to their activity and function.
The resulting image is transferred to a decoding system and is reviewed by a Nuclear Medicine specialist who can diagnose suspicious absorptions.
This testing is primarily used in conditions such as cancerous tumors, inflammatory diseases and various infections, different heart diseases, and diseases of the nervous system such as epilepsy, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
In situations where a malignancy has been detected, and it is necessary to rule out the spread of metastases in the body, a PET-CT test is recommended. The attending physician decides whether the test should be performed.
In cases of known metastatic cancer (cancer that has spread beyond the place where it started to develop), PET-CT testing is used to monitor the tumor and the metastases, and to evaluate the response to treatment.
