Doing Good - For Meital's future

Donors: 284

Thirteen years ago, we opened our home and our hearts to a foster child. Since then, she has been our daughter in every way. Over the years, once we finally found a shared language and she truly felt she had found a home, she bravely chose to care for herself, to open the painful story of her childhood, and to begin healing. With extraordinary courage, she completed her high school diploma, national service, and a paramedics course, becoming the youngest paramedic in Magen David Adom. With remarkable strength, she devoted herself to giving, always extending a hand to anyone in need. But the horrific experiences of her early childhood became, over time, unbearable - turning into indescribable physical pain. She has been diagnosed with complex PTSD, and one of her current symptoms is an active eating disorder. In practice, this combination deters many public and private treatment facilities, even though professionals acknowledge that this is precisely the combination that causes many young people in Israel to "fall between the cracks." The few places that do treat this dual condition operate as residential therapeutic homes. Sadly, this option is not suitable for her because of the nature of the trauma she endured as a child. Staying in such facilities would be triggering and would cause more harm than benefit. We have reached the point, with the guidance of professionals, of understanding that she needs a carefully tailored support system - one designed specifically for her, rather than expecting her to fit into a partial framework that does not truly meet her needs. Through meticulous effort and careful searching, we are now assembling the most professional, sensitive, and flexible therapeutic team for her. This system is currently being built and is already giving her the first sparks of hope, but it comes at a very high cost. She needs help to heal her wounded soul and to learn how to live a full life alongside the pain she did not choose. We cannot erase her past, but with love, we can help her pave the future she so deeply deserves. We are determined to secure the funding necessary to provide her with the best possible care. Every donation helps us reach the goal of covering the cost of two years of treatment and support - 150,000 NIS, and will help our daughter, Meital, realize her tremendous potential and continue to bring good into the world. With deep gratitude, Naama and Moti Itzkovich
