Lyo Mayerfeld's Bar Mitzvah Project

For my bar mitzvah project, I want to help create something really special for kids my age, especially those who don’t always have the same opportunities and advantages that I and many kids I know have. My goal is to raise $5,000 for Hokrim — the bar and bat mitzvah–age group at Camp Shutaf in Jerusalem. Shutaf is an inclusive camp where kids with and without disabilities come together to have fun, feel accepted, and be part of a real community. The money I raise will go toward outings for the Hokrim group, like bowling, karaoke, and VIP movie nights. While those may sound like everyday activities, for many of these kids — who face social and financial challenges — they're anything but ordinary. These trips offer rare opportunities to build friendships, bond as a group, feel truly included, and create unforgettable memories outside of camp. More About Shutaf: Founded in 2007, Shutaf Inclusion Programs offer high-quality, inclusive informal education experiences for children, teens, and young adults of all abilities. Shutaf brings together participants from diverse religious, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds—kids with and without disabilities—who learn, grow, and have fun side by side. Shutaf programs include summer day camp, teen leadership training, and 21+ programs for young adults with disabilities.
