Just Smile

As the year draws to a close, we would like to share an update on the work of Just Smile and its activities. Over the past year and a half, Just Smile has subsidized more than 250 mental health therapy sessions, with total expenditures exceeding NIS 100,000. These treatments were provided for individuals experiencing severe mental health distress, suicidal ideation, and those who had attempted suicide, all of whom were unable to afford psychologic treatment on their own. For many of them, the treatment they received was life saving and provided essential support during an extremely difficult time. In addition to subsidizing therapy, Just Smile has initiated and produced gatherings and large scale events with hundreds of participants, aimed at raising awareness for suicide prevention, particularly among adolescents and young adults. Our most recent event took place on International Suicide Prevention Day, in cooperation with the Municipality of Jerusalem and the Mayor of Jerusalem, Mr. Moshe Leon, and was attended by over 600 participants. The evening included a performance by the singer Raviv Kaner, who shared his personal experience coping with PTSD, as well as a professional lecture by Dr. Maya Yahon-Barak, the association’s Psychologist, on identifying signs of suicidal distress and how to respond. The event received wide coverage across mainstream and social media platforms. This year we were honored with special recognition, as Just Smile received a commendation from the Mayor of Jerusalem, Mr. Moshe Leon, in acknowledgment of our important work in the city. Just Smile operates on a broad scale, and now, as the tax year comes to an end, we would be deeply grateful for support that will allow us to continue this vital work, expand the subsidization of therapy, and reach additional individuals in need of help.
