Efrat was pure heart. She was our heart. When we learned that she had become sick with leukemia, we knew that everything would be okay. We knew that together we would face the cancer and beat it. Because that’s how it is with hearts – they never, ever stop beating. Treatments, chemotherapy, innovative biotherapies, heartfelt prayers, long talks. And the heart continued to beat. Until, one day, the phone call came from Rambam Hospital. The blood test results were in and they were bad. It was time for a new approach. It was time for a bone marrow transplant. And again – endless hope, long talks, heartfelt prayers. Day after day after day, the heart continued to beat. And the children. Efrat’s children. Rut (15.5), Yoel (14.5), Ma’ayan and Moriah (the twins, 12 – Bat Mizvah), Odeliah (8), and Shir Ahava (3) watched their mother going in and out of the hospital. And we kept telling them that everything will be okay. And we kept promising them that hearts never, ever stop beating. This story unfortunately has a sad ending. On the last day of Adar Bet, Efrati’s soul was returned to its maker. Beautiful until her last moment, pure and whole with the life she lived, Efrat Sadot left this world. And the heart stopped beating. Even though we promised Efrat’s husband, Ran, and her beautiful kids, that hearts never, ever stop beating. We promised them, and we intend to keep our promise. We, Efrat’s friends, want to make the heart start beating again. We want to give the Sadot family a full year in which Ran and the kids can properly mourn. In which they can slowly, slowly get back on their feet and reconnect the pieces of their lives. Our goal is to raise 650,000 NIS, enough to cover: Education costs for the kids. Debts incurred over the last year of Efrat’s illness. A year of financial security so that the family will have space to recover. We want you to get to know Efrat. We want you to understand the greatness of her light. We want you to understand the greatness of this light that has left us. Efrati was our “village healer”. She prepared medicines and tinctures. She was our midwife and our doula. She was a true friend. She had the greatest laugh and the best sense of humor. She was a student of Yemima, an artistic seamstress, an incomparable cook, an incredible painter and an amazing writer. She was our heart. At Efrat’s funeral, we saw how much she touched every person that she met. Hundreds of people, from all parts of her life, came to say goodbye. Everybody was devastated and no one could quite believe what was happening. We promised Efrat that her heart would continue to beat. Together we are a single human tapestry. Please, come be a part of this tapestry. Come be a part of our promise.
