Honoring Guy Karmiel: A Living Memorial in Gedera for a Fallen Sayeret Nahal Hero

On Monday, January 13, 2025, our world collapsed. We received the devastating news that our beloved Guy Karmiel, a hero of Israel and a warrior in the Nahal Reconnaissance Unit (Sayeret Nahal), fell in operational activity in Gaza. Guy fell alongside four of his brave teammates: Yair Shoshan, Yahav Hadar, Yoav Fefer, and Aviel Weissman, may their memories be a blessing. In partnership with the Gedera City Council, which has allocated the land, we—Guy's heartbroken family and friends—are planning to establish a memorial site in his memory. The site will be located near his home in his birthplace of Gedera, a city he loved so dearly. For us, his family and friends, this site will serve as a sanctuary—a place for reflection, remembrance, and the social gatherings that Guy enjoyed so much. It will also allow the residents of the area, and especially the youth, to connect with the story of Guy: a son of Gedera, a dedicated leader in the "Maccabi Israel" youth movement, and a hero who fought with immense courage in the "Swords of Iron" war, from which he never returned. The land for the memorial has already been approved for development by the municipality. We have a comprehensive quote from a licensed contractor in hand, and as soon as we reach our initial funding goal, we will begin construction.
