Dr. KelevBringing more smiles and hope to hospital patients in Israel
Every day, thousands of Israelis are hospitalized across the country. Behind every patient lies a story of pain, anxiety, and sometimes profound loneliness.
Over the past three years- following the outbreak of the "Swords of Iron" War, the need for emotional and rehabilitative support has grown significantly with the rise in the number of hospitalized war casualties.
The healthcare system and its staff do invaluable work in treating all the sick and injured!!
We at "Dr. Kelev," believe- and know- that the presence of canine-assisted therapy in hospital wards can assist, accelerate, and ease rehabilitation and recovery processes.
The "Dr. Kelev” initiative is a non-profit social initiative aimed at integrating a unique model of therapeutic-medical dog handling into Israel's healthcare and rehabilitation systems.
We believe that full recovery encompasses both the mind and the body.
Here is an example of how your contribution changes lives:
Our therapeutic dog handlers are active partners in the medical process, creating small miracles every day:
In pediatric wards: They transform procedures, such as MRI and CT scans, blood draws, and others, into far less intimidating experiences.
In rehabilitation: They encourage stroke victims, accident casualties, and wounded soldiers to get out of bed and practice rehabilitation and physical therapy exercises, together with the dogs.
Support of medical staff: The presence of the dogs reduces burnout among doctors and nurses on the frontline of patient care.
Support of families: They provide encouragement and support to family members experiencing anxiety, loneliness, or crisis.
Assisting combat soldiers: Helping them cope with complex injuries and trauma.
In geriatrics: They encourage patients to take medication, cooperate with medical staff, and improve their independence according to their functional capacity.
Uncompromising professionalism:
Our dog handlers and dogs are far more than just "cute visitors." They undergo comprehensive training tailored to a sterile medical environment, operate under strict safety and hygiene protocols and remain under continuous veterinary and professional supervision.
Be part of a systemic change.
Our financial model aims to create long-term partnerships with hospitals, but we need you to help us implement the program and build the necessary professional infrastructure.
Your contribution is an investment in compassion, medical innovation, and broad social impact.
Together, we can make therapeuti- medical dog programs a natural part of the landscape in every public hospital in Israel

When rules give way to love
Michael, 8, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer at a very advanced stage. Time was running out and he had to go immediately into surgery in order to insert a "port" for immediate chemotherapy treatments.
When we arrived at the hospital with Glory it became clear that we would not be able to enter the pre-operative holding area due to the sterility requirements. The thought of Michael going through these critical hours alone was unbearable.
Then the team did something extraordinary.
For the next 90 minutes, all exams and procedures were moved to the hallway. The doctor went out to sign forms in the hallway. The nurse took measurements in the hallway. The social worker held a preparatory conversation in the hallway. Every action that could be performed outside the sterile room was performed there.
Michael and Glory stayed together until the last possible moment. The team fulfilled their medical and professional duty, and at the same time they were able to see that sometimes their most important duty is to be human.
After an hour and a half of caresses, grooming and playing, Glory and Michael were already exhausted. Michael rested on the bench with his head in his mother's lap and Glory was lying under the bench on which he rested. Two tired friends after a hard day’s work.
Instead of spending an hour and a half of fear and uncertainty, facing the unknown, Michael spent an hour and a half of fun and love. It also afforded Michael’s parents a moment of release. While Michael and Glory were in their own world, the parents could have a conversation with the social worker and were able to cry a little in this moment of terror.
Glory not only gave the child strength to face what awaited him, she gave the family a few moments to breathe and regain their strength so that they will be able to support him.
Here in "Dr. Kelev" we understand that healing is needed not just for the patient, but for the entire family, because when the family is stronger, the child is stronger too.
The "Dr. Kelev" initiative brings a form of therapy that science is still learning to understand.
But the heart already knows!
Let’s help more patients experience this magic!
