Running With Meaning - In Memory of Lucy, Maia & Rina Dee HY”D

On April 7th, during Chol HaMoed Pesach, our community—and the entire people of Israel—lost three extraordinary souls: Lucy (48), Maia (20), and Rina (15) Dee HY”D. A mother and two daughters, murdered by terrorists while on their way to a family hike. They are survived by Rabbi Leo Dee and siblings Keren, Tali, and Yehuda. The Dee family, who made Aliyah from London and settled in Efrat, became pillars of our community from the moment they arrived. Their tragic loss shook us deeply—but their light continues to lead us. 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️ Running for the Flag – Year Three In the spirit of the powerful message Rabbi Dee delivered at the funeral—to raise the Israeli flag high so the world would know that Am Yisrael Chai—the Dee family launched “Running for the Flag” at the Jerusalem Marathon. Now entering its third year, runners from Israel and around the world are joining together once again to run, remember, and strengthen the values the Dee women embodied: joy, leadership, kindness, resilience, and love of Am Yisrael. Your participation and support help transform memory into action. ✨ What Are We Raising For? Thanks to the generosity of thousands, two of the three original Dee Legacy Projects are now fully completed: ✔ Maia’s Spring – A natural oasis celebrating Maia’s love of water and nature ✔ The Lucy Dee Simcha Hall – A beautiful space for community celebrations Still Needed: Rina Dee Youth Center Rina was a devoted participant and youth leader in the Ezra youth movement. The Rina Dee Youth Center—a dedicated building for local youth—will perpetuate her passion, leadership, and joyful energy. This is the final remaining project from the original Dee Legacy initiative, and your support will help us complete it. 🌱 Looking Ahead: New Initiatives The Dee family is also preparing additional legacy projects to further expand the impact of Lucy, Maia, and Rina’s lives. Funds raised by our marathon team will not only help finish the Rina Dee Youth Center, but will also seed new initiatives that continue their mission of strengthening community, values, and Jewish unity.
