Ella is 21. She has nowhere to go.

There are young people who, at the age of 21, begin to live, and there are others, like Ella and her friends, whose lives begin to fade away at 21, not physically, but socially and occupationally. At 21, Ella has nowhere to go! For Ella and her friends with complex support needs, a therapeutic day center is an entire world. It is where they go each morning, where they meet friends, receive care, and feel a sense of belonging and purpose. This is their social and occupational world from the age of 21 and for the rest of their lives. And precisely because of this, there is no place for Ella in existing day centers. In every local authority, there should be a day center that provides appropriate support for adults with complex support needs aged 21 and above. In Emek Hefer, our home for over 30 years, there is still no such place that meets Ella’s unique needs. We cannot accept this. Together with the Shira Center, a nonprofit organization that operates a day center for people with autism and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities and is dedicated to enabling lives of dignity, choice, and meaning, and with the Emek Hefer Regional Council, we are working to establish a new, specialized day center. A place that will be a whole world, where Ella and her friends can live with dignity, security, and joy throughout their lives. To make this place a reality, with protective infrastructure (MAMAD), accessibility, and adapted equipment, we need you as our partners.
