The Calm Room Project – Al-Mashhad Elementary School

Children do not always voice the pressures they endure, yet these struggles often manifest through distraction, anxiety, and a difficulty to focus and learn. Many of our students face daily psychological stress rooted in unstable and violent environments, which directly impacts their sense of safety and their academic performance. From this need, the "Roots for Life" project was born. It aims to empower children with psychological resilience tools by reconnecting them with their cultural identity and inner sources of strength. The Emotional Regulation Room is the heart of this mission. It is a space where a child feeling overwhelmed or anxious can go to pause, express their emotions, and find calm. They then return to their classroom better equipped to focus and engage, carrying with them a life skill that lasts forever.
