Osher Joy Square

Happiness is rooted here. Joy rises above.

On the morning of October 7th, the world changed. Osher Simcha (Joy) Barzilai, a 19-year-old operations sergeant, was in the command room at the Nahal Oz outpost. When the attack began, she did not run. She stayed. Within minutes, she understood the масшטה of the situation, took command, directed forces, managed the battle — and saved many lives. Even when she had the chance to escape — she chose to stay with her friends. Even in her final moments — she put others before herself. Osher was sun light— not only in her final moments. Everyone who knew her speaks of a smile that could light up a room, of endless generosity, of a simple and profound love for people. There is pain that remains rooted in the earth. But there is also light that seeks to rise. This is where the square comes in. Not as just another project — but as a bridge. Between the earth — where memory is rooted. And the heavens — where her light continues to rise. We invite you to be part of this. Not only to commemorate — but to continue. To turn memory into a place. Pain into light. And Osher — into a joy that continues to live on. Join us in building Osher Joy Square.
