Fundraising Campaign – Summer Retreat for Bereaved Families at Odem Forest

There are wounds that never fully heal. There is an emptiness no words can fill. Yet even within the deepest darkness, we can choose to bring more light into the world. My name is David Herman, father of Tamar z”l, who passed away from cancer at the age of 16 and a half nearly four years ago. Out of our family’s personal pain and the difficult journey we have endured, we chose to transform grief into meaningful action by establishing B’darkei Tamar – Increasing Light. Our organization is dedicated to supporting bereaved families across Israel — families living each day with profound loss, longing, and emotional hardship, often without the support and community they truly need. On July 5, 2026, we will lead a special two-day retreat at Odem Forest for approximately 200 participants from bereaved families throughout the country. The purpose of this retreat is to offer these families a rare opportunity to breathe, reconnect, and heal — surrounded by nature, compassion, mutual support, and a caring community of people who deeply understand their journey. During the retreat, participants will experience: • Support and sharing circles • Activities for parents and children • Emotional resilience and empowerment workshops • Nature-based experiences • Shared meals and accommodations • A warm and supportive community environment The participation cost is only 260 NIS per person — a fee that covers only a small portion of the actual expenses involved in transportation, lodging, meals, professional programming, and activities. Our mission is to ensure that every bereaved family can participate, regardless of financial circumstances. To make this possible, we need your partnership and support. Our goal is to provide sponsorship for all 200 participants, ensuring that no family is left behind.
