Mitzpe Amir: A Legacy of Heroism and Hope

Donors: 18

On the morning of Saturday, October 7, 2023, terrorists reached the perimeter of Kibbutz Erez. The kibbutz’s rapid response team deployed immediately to defend their home, successfully blocking the infiltration. During the battle, Kibbutz Erez native Major (Res.) Amir Manzhor Naim, a veteran of the Elite Yahalom unit, fell in the line of duty. Through his courageous actions, Amir saved the kibbutz and its residents. Amir was born and raised in Erez. He was 27 years old when he fell in the line of duty. He was the beloved son of Orna and Asher, brother to Moran and Dekel, loving husband to Shahar, and a devoted uncle to Gefen. Amir anxiously awaited the birth of his son, Refael, who was born approximately six months after his father fell in battle. Amir shared a profound connection to the land and the State of Israel, which he rose to defend that morning. He was a curious, enterprising, and cherished individual, characterized by a generous heart and a rare ability to bring people together. He possessed a passion for craftsmanship—ranging from custom knife making and building meat smokers to brewing beer and desert Jeep excursions. Alongside these pursuits, he was a dedicated soldier, commander, and man of values who volunteered with HaShomer HaChadash, served in the Yahalom EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) unit, and continued his service as a reserve officer in the Golani Brigade. In his civilian life, he studied Chemical Engineering and worked within Intel's Environmental Quality team. In his memory, "Mitzpe Amir" (Amir’s Lookout) is currently being established at the site of the battle. The memorial will feature a ceremonial plaza, an observation and remembrance point, seating areas for reflection, and a campfire circle. It is designed to be a place that tells the story of the heroism of Amir and the rapid response team, while remaining a vibrant space for life, community, nature, and hope. The lookout was designed to reflect Amir’s character and the landscape of his childhood, incorporating Corten steel, concrete, and local Kurkar stone. The motif of the rhinoceros—a symbol that accompanied Amir throughout his life—will be integrated into the project as an emblem of strength, initiative, leadership, and protection. We invite you to take part in the establishment of "Mitzpe Amir" and to join us in honoring the spirit, values, and life story of the late Amir Manzhor Naim.
