Stop disease before it starts

Every day, millions of people are exposed to diseases such as schistosomiasis, trachoma and intestinal worms, not because treatment isn't available, but because the conditions around them make prevention nearly impossible. Without reliable water access, functioning sanitation or the knowledge to maintain them, hygiene breaks down. And when hygiene breaks down, disease spreads. Treatment matters. But treating disease without changing these conditions means people can be exposed again and again. Real prevention means keeping water systems working, strengthening sanitation and hygiene, and building the local knowledge to sustain all of it. That is what NALA does. At Kola Shele Primary School, for instance, that meant a water system broken for 21 years, repaired in just two days, reaching 2,700 students overnight. In Adwa, it means WASH Fellow Birhane and his community keeping their own system running years after NALA's team moved on. And across South West Ethiopia, it means hygiene lessons built into ordinary school days, reaching more than 500,000 children every year with the knowledge to protect themselves. Safe water, sanitation and hygiene are not just infrastructure issues. They are essential to reducing disease transmission and preventing reinfection. This is where your support comes in. Help communities prevent disease before it starts.
