HASHISHA, MORE THAN A BASKETBALL TEAM Some teams are created to win games. Hapoel HaShisha Jerusalem was created for something bigger. We are building a basketball team in Jerusalem in memory of “The Beautiful Six” — Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Eden Yerushalmi, Ori Danino, Alex Lobanov, Almog Sarusi and Carmel Gat of blessed memory — and other members of Jerusalem’s basketball community whom we have lost on or since October 7. Their loss left an emptiness that can never truly be filled. But we believe that memory can also become a force for life. Help us carry their memory forward. BASKETBALL IS MORE THAN A SPORT It teaches people to trust one another. To pass the ball. To pick each other up. To fight for something together. Basketball also brings together people of different ages and backgrounds. A team can become a family and a game can bring an entire community into the same room. That is the community we want to build with Hapoel HaShisha Jerusalem. We want our home court to become a place filled with players, families and fans —where people come not only to watch basketball, but to carry forward the values for which the Beautiful Six are remembered: Life, Strength, Love, Unity, Light and Hope. PLAYING FOR SOMETHING BIGGER Hapoel HaShisha is a semi-professional basketball team partnering with the Hapoel Jerusalem Youth Basketball that will compete in Liga Aleph (4th division) of the Israeli Basketball Association, with players ages 18–30. Each home game will be dedicated to a sports fan lost on or since October 7. Our locker room at the Cosell Sports Center on Hebrew University’s Mount Scopus campus will become a living connection between the players and those whose memories they carry. Throughout the year, Hashisha will host community activities inspired by the lives and values of those we remember — such as a Community Yoga Day honoring Carmel Gat and Eden Yerushalmi, who were both yoga instructors.
