Let it be light -Genesis

*Staff Sergeant Or Damri, of blessed memory,* was the son of Liliya and Yoel and the eldest brother of Eliya and Adir. Or was born on October 26, 2005, the 23rd of Tishrei, 5766. He grew up in Moshav Liman in the Western Galilee and attended Regba Elementary School and Sulam Tzur Secondary School in Gesher HaZiv. Or enlisted on April 8, 2024, as a combat soldier in the Combat Engineering Corps. He served with the Galilee Cats, in the 91st Division’s heavy engineering equipment company. He fell in battle in Lebanon during the Roaring Lion War on March 8, 2026, the 19th of Adar, 5786. The incident took place on the Ramim Ridge, near Moshav Margaliot, on Lebanese territory. Or had gone out on a mission to recover a tank that had become stuck. During the rescue, the vehicle he was operating was struck by Hezbollah fire. True to his name, Or – meaning “light” in Hebrew – filled every place he went with light, happiness, mischief and laughter. Or was a natural leader, and whatever he set his mind to, whatever he pursued or did, became a great success. Full of positive energy, he was bright, curious and eager to learn new things. What Or loved most was simply being alive and spreading joy wherever he went. If you wish to draw inspiration from Or, simply be a light: spread laughter among friends, love your family, devote yourself to every task and offer help and support to those who need it. *Be Or, be a light – and let there be light.* .During his military service, Or became more observant and joyfully embraced Jewish religious life. In his memory and for the elevation of his soul, we are launching a crowdfunding campaign to commission a Torah scroll.
