Let Bogdan Be a Child Again

By Yad Yitzhak Russian Expatriates Association (R.A.)

My son is on the autism spectrum. And now he also has cancer.

I don’t know how to ask for help from people who don’t know us. But I have no other choice anymore. I am Bogdan’s mother. A few years ago, we immigrated to Israel from Saint Petersburg. We came here for something simple: to work, raise our children here, and build a future for them. Today, our entire life revolves around one thing. Bogdan’s illness. Bogdan is on the autism spectrum. And when we found out he had cancer, our world stopped. He has already undergone surgery. Now he is going through chemotherapy and rehabilitation. And we keep going to the hospital. Again, and again, and again. The scariest part is not the treatment itself. The scariest part is what can happen in between. Bogdan is at risk of epileptic seizures and complications that require urgent medical care. At any moment. We have to be able to take him to the hospital immediately. Without thinking, without searching for someone to look after our daughter. Just get up and go. This is what the past few months have looked like for us: hospital, home, work, children. And then all over again. And we have no one here. No grandparents, no aunts or uncles. No one who can take the children for a few hours, drive us to the hospital, or step in for a moment so we can breathe. And there is someone else this illness has affected. Uliana, Bogdan’s sister. Of course, most of our attention goes to Bogdan. But I refuse to let her brother’s illness take away her childhood. I want her to keep going to her activities. To meet her friends. To feel that her life matters too. That she matters too. We are fighting to preserve at least part of a normal childhood for Uliana. So that her brother’s illness does not stop her life too. But the money is running out. Bogdan’s treatment and rehabilitation. Trips to the hospital. The car, without which we cannot get him to treatment on time. The expenses of raising two children. And the debts that have accumulated. We are not sitting at home. We both continue to work. But our salaries are no longer enough to cover both everyday life and the illness. It is simply impossible. I am not asking for a beautiful life. I am not asking for a comfortable life. I just want to take care of my son. And not wake up every morning afraid that this time we will no longer have enough money to pay for the next essential thing. What your donation will help pay for Very simple things. So Bogdan can continue his treatment and rehabilitation without interruption. Fuel and car maintenance, so we can get to the hospital on time. When it is urgent. The essential expenses of raising two children. And a few months in which we will not live in fear of the next bill. Our wish is simple. For Bogdan to get through treatment, recover from surgery, and regain his strength. And be a child again. We are doing everything we can. But we can no longer get through this alone. Please help us get through the hardest period of our lives. And if you cannot donate, please share this. Send it to someone you know. That is help too. 🙏
