Maccabi Tel Aviv Sports Club

Gabriel Oheb Sion Schneider, a 17-year-old volleyball player, was born in Israel but grew up in Brazil. Throughout his life, Gabriel received a Zionist education from his family and at his Jewish school in Brazil; now, at age 17, he seeks to fulfill his dream of immigrating to Israel on his own. Gabriel aims to do this through the Maccabi Tel Aviv volleyball team's "Shorashim" (=Roots) program. Gabriel is a young volleyball player who played for Flamengo in Brazil and competed with the Brazilian team at the Maccabiah Games - the "Jewish Olympics" - in the last summer. Now that he wishes to immigrate to Israel, he wants to continue playing volleyball for Maccabi Tel Aviv. Maccabi Tel Aviv Volleyball's "Shorashim" program connects Jews from around the world to the State of Israel and their Jewish identity through a shared love of sports. The program provides Gabriel with a scholarship of approximately $10,000 to cover living expenses for him to live in Israel for a year. The funds raised will help cover: * Flights from Brazil to Israel * Rent in Tel Aviv * A stipend for food expenses * Funding for volleyball and sports equipment This is about much more than volleyball. It is an opportunity for a young Jewish athlete to come to Israel, develop his abilities, become part of a team, experience Israeli life and culture, and build a stronger connection to Israel through something he loves.
