About two months ago, we received a request from the members of Kibbutz Sufa to establish a Leadership Academy for the Kibbutz this summer. Kibbutz Sufa, adjacent to the Gaza Strip, has been operating for decades on the border of the State of Israel, all throughout a constantly-changing security situation. The Kibbutz symbolizes Zionism, the protection of the country’s borders and the flourishing of the Negev. Kibbutz members have been working for many years to bring young people back but without success. It is of critical importance for demographic growth of the Kibbutz to have young people, trained with leadership skills, committed to its future. In light of the understanding that if we expect others to take responsibility for the communities in the Negev, it is clear that we also have the duty and work upon us. Based on this, we decided to act, understanding that if we could not shoulder the responsibility and respond to the tough reality of the Gaza envelope, nothing at all would happen there. 40 students, young people from all over Israel have already been recruited to the Midrasha. These brave, Israeli youth seek to arrive at the kibbutz this summer, and aim to become a force that initiates, revives and renews life for its residents. Our goal is to bring the members of Kibbutz Sufa to a place of belief in themselves and in their inherent strengths again. Won’t we all enlist, and respond to this call for action? Once again we expect the youth to shoulder the responsibility, and once again they respond affirmatively. We must engage and enlist everyone with the power and ability to enable this important enterprise. To ensure the establishment of the Leadership Academy at Kibbutz Sufa, we must raise the sum of 500,000 NIS for construction. For that, I turn to you.
