Enkutatash – Happy New Year!

By Friends by Nature- Community Empowerment

Our Junior Counselors, the next generation of leaders in our neighborhoods, wish everyone "Enkutatash! Happy New Year!"

Participants of FBN's "Maslul" Youth Leadership Program learn about the rich traditions of their community, strengthening their own personal identities. "Enkutatash" is the greeting for the New Year in Ethiopia, celebrated on September 11, by Ethiopia's unique calendar, which falls around the time of Rosh Hashanah. In Ethiopia, people give one another the yellow daisy flower of Enkutatash, which is in bloom now - with a greeting, a blessing, and a wish for a great new year. On September 19, just before our Rosh Hashanah, our junior counselors will gather in their town squares to greet passersby, hand out flowers and honey and tell people about the Ethiopian New Year customs. We believe that sharing knowledge on Ethiopian culture through a pleasant gesture brings people together! Your donation will allow us to buy honey and flowers and print holiday cards. Help us reach as many people as possible -- our junior counselors are ready to go!
